I'm a Star Trek Original Series fan of lengthy standing, 35+ years at this point.
When I initial heard that the original series was going to be re-released with all new effects on blu-ray, I was much less than thrilled. Perhaps this attitude is foreign to the younger individuals, but there is, for me, a particular charm within the original effects. Even though I acknowledge that the effects inside Star Trek Original Series Blu Ray DVD are occasionally not slick as you see in modern day films, folks require to recognize and appreciate that they had been working prior to the time of pc generated graphics -- and on a television spending budget. In short, the effects on the original series stand as an example of what dedicated, talented people today could do when it all had to be performed "the challenging way". And it seemed disrespectful, a minimum of, of that achievement to replace the difficult work of those persons. The truth is, it seemed to me, at very first, to genuinely be just an additional way for additional dollars to be milked out of both the fans and also the series.
Then I began thinking. And reading. And thinking about. And, lastly, I decided to take Star Trek Original Series Blu Ray Collection for myself.
What I discovered is that the new effects are, as expected, as excellent as only a personal computer can make them. Best effects are, actually, obtaining to be a ho-hum factor to me. I understand and recognize that it still takes talent and skill to develop effects utilizing a personal computer, but, honestly, once you can understand on the screen literally anything you would like as very easily as anything else... well, it just isn't the identical. There just isn't that sense of "Wow, how did they DO that?" anymore.
But...
What I also discovered was that wonderful and loving care was taken to preserve and in fact improve the original episodes via the use of this new technologies.
Regardless of any debate on the merits of performing it or not, it is performed -- along with the outcomes are superb.
The accompanying "bonus features" are also rather superior.
